Description of Presentation

This presentation will introduce Gizmos from explorelearning.com. Gizmos are online, interactive simulations that support a variety of teaching and learning styles. This subscription service allows teachers to search simulations by topic, state standards and textbook correlations. These powerful tools can be used as demonstrations on interactive boards or used indivdiually by students. Teachers can register students and online, summative assessments provide teachers with reports of student progress.

NOTES from the session

(Blogger: Aly Tapp)

Please consult the presentation above for the information from Shawn's presentation.

The website for Gizmos is www.explorelearning.com

Think of Gizmos as a subscription to math applets. The difference between this and the free applets on Web is that Gizmos are designed for teachers. You get MUCH more functionality with these than with free applets. Shawn demoed many of these features:
  • Organization by teacher homepage
  • Web-based, anytime access
  • Student accounts
  • Learning Guides
  • Assessment options (more formative than summative)
  • Customizable

Cost: $2337 for the entire math and science departments. (This is the cost to Gettysburg). The company does provide a free 30-day trial.
